I’m enjoying spending some time with family in the UK. Of course we wanted to take a trip to London! We took the train down to Charing Cross station to poke around that area for a little bit. Last time we were here we really wanted to go to the National Gallery. But we were very disappointed to find that some of the workers had gone on strike so most of the gallery was closed. So this year we really wanted to go! Luckily it was all open so we walked around looking at some of the most beautiful and famous paintings in the world.
After walking around the National Gallery (which is really quite massive!) we were exhausted. We were ready for some food! We walked up and down a few different streets towards Covent Garden. Nothing was looking too promising for a vegan lunch. Finally we turned a corner and found Jamie’s Italian. Jamie as in Jamie Oliver who is a very popular chef in UK and has had lots of success in the US as well. He is not a strictly vegan chef but he does have a very extensive range of vegan recipes. I’ve always wanted to try one of his restaurants and after looking over the menu outside I was very excited to see how many vegan options they had. Most vegetarian meals could be made vegan with a few adjustments.
We were there for lunch so you could get one starter and one main dish for £12.95. I went for the Slow-Roasted Squash Soup (no yogurt on top) and Super Food Salad (no cottage cheese). With both I just asked the waitress to make sure they were both vegan. She knew exactly what I meant and what to do. I loved both of the dishes. They were both very flavorful and I would say the soup was my particular favorite.
Some other options that you could make vegan are: Caeser salad, Market Salad, Veggie Tagliatelle Bolognese, Sicilian-Turbo,Penne Arrabbiata and Spiced Aubergine.
